The short version

By using Fold In, you agree to use it for what it's for: sharing your own stuff with a small group of people you trust. You agree to treat other Fold members the way you'd want to be treated. We agree to keep the app running, keep your data private, and tell you when something material changes.

Be kind. Bring it back. Tell the truth about how you broke it.

What you can do

  • Create and join Folds with people you trust.
  • Add items you own and consent to lend.
  • Request to borrow items in your Folds.
  • Cancel or change any of the above at any time.
  • Export your data, leave a Fold, or delete your account whenever you want.

What you cannot do

  • List items you don't own or aren't authorized to lend.
  • Use Fold In to commit a crime, harass another user, or distribute illegal content.
  • Sell items through Fold In, or use it as a marketplace. (This isn't enforced via the app; it's a community norm. Persistent commercial use will get you removed.)
  • Reverse-engineer, scrape, or attempt to access data outside your own Folds.
  • Misrepresent another person to gain access to a Fold.

What we provide

We provide the app and the infrastructure behind it on a best-effort basis. We aim for 99.9% uptime but can't promise it during beta. We will not delete your data without warning. We will not change the price of paid plans without notice.

What we don't guarantee

We are not an insurance company. If your stand mixer is borrowed and dropped, that's between you and the borrower. The app helps you document and resolve incidents, it does not pay out claims. If you want to lend something irreplaceable, please don't.

If something goes wrong between Fold members

The Incident flow inside the app is your first stop. If you can't resolve it there, we'll mediate on request, but we won't make the final call. Folds work because the members trust each other; we're not a court.

If you misuse the app

We may suspend or remove accounts that consistently violate these terms, distribute illegal content, or harass other members. We'll explain why, give you a chance to respond, and let you export your data first.

If you stop using the app

You can delete your account from MeSettingsDelete account. Your data is removed within 30 days; your past borrows show as "from a former member" so your Fold's history isn't broken.

Liability and warranty

The app is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. We aren't liable for damages arising from your use of the app beyond the amount you've paid us (which during beta is zero). If you live somewhere this clause is unenforceable, this clause doesn't apply to you.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts of San Francisco County.

Changes

If we change anything material, we'll email you, post about it on the Field notes, and ask you to re-acknowledge on next app open. We won't apply changes retroactively to old borrows or old data.
