Private lending circles

Lend what you have. Borrow what you need.

fold in is a quiet, invite-only app for sharing the things you already own with people you already trust. A care note travels with each item, and a small handoff ritual makes every borrow easy to end.

01 · The idea

Most of what we own sits still most of the time.

A drill, a ladder, a stand mixer, a travel cot. The people around you already own most of what you'll ever briefly need, and you own things they'd be glad to borrow. fold in is the small, private place where that trade works.

Folds

Private circles, by invitation.

A Fold is a handful of people who already trust each other, like the neighbors on your block or your climbing crew. Nothing is ever public, and you can belong to several.

Items

Yours, shared.

Fold in the things you're happy to lend, each with a photo, a care note, and the room it lives in. There are no prices or reviews, and only your Fold can see what you add.

Borrows

A loop that always closes.

Ask, get a yes, meet for the handoff, bring it back with a photo. Both sides always know where the thing is, so nothing slips into a black hole.

02 · The loop

How a borrow goes, start to finish.

Five steps, and money never changes hands between you.

Step 01

Start a Fold with people you trust.

Invite by link or straight from your contacts. Start with the people you'd trust with a spare key. What's inside a Fold stays inside the Fold, and you can be in several at once.

Step 02

Fold in the things you'd lend anyway.

Snap a photo and the app fills in the title, the category, and even which room it lives in. Add a care note if there's a trick to it. The free plan includes fifteen auto-fills a month.

Step 03

Ask with a tap, or join the queue.

Search across your Folds and ask. If the thing is already out with someone else, get in line and the app tells you the moment it's your turn.

MSure, all yours for the weekend.

Step 04

Meet up and hand it off.

A four-digit code confirms the pickup and a quick photo records the condition. The lender knows exactly when it left their hands, and the care note rides along.

Step 05

Bring it back, close the loop.

Scan the item's QR code or add a return photo, and it's back on the shelf for the next person. If something breaks or goes missing, an incident pauses everything until you've sorted it out together.

Done. It's folded in.

03 · In the app

Built for real lending, not a marketplace.

Every feature is here to help a borrow end gracefully. None of it is built to farm your attention.

01

Fold it in with a photoNew

Point the camera at the thing and the title, category, and room fill themselves in. Adding an item takes seconds.

02

RoomsNew

Garage, attic, kitchen shelf. Each item remembers where it lives, so "where's the jigsaw" has an answer.

03

The queueNew

Something's already out? Get in line. When it comes back, the next person hears "it's your turn" without anyone having to scroll back through a group chat.

04

QR returnsNew

A code lives on the shelf where the thing belongs. Returning it is one scan instead of typing and photos.

05

BundlesNew

Things that belong together, like a camping kit or the raclette set, travel as one borrow.

06

Care notes

"Battery latch sticks, wiggle the cover." The owner's tips show up right when the borrower needs them instead of sinking into a chat thread.

07

Gentle reminders

The app asks "returning tuesday?" instead of shouting "OVERDUE". Late doesn't mean lost, and a nudge between friends is enough.

08

Incidents

If something breaks or goes missing, the borrow pauses on a shared screen. You both see what happened and close it together.

09

Search that stays homeNew

One search reaches every Fold you're in and shows what's new and what's back on the shelf. Strangers never see any of it.

10

No passwords

Sign in with a six-digit code sent to your email. There's no password to remember or leak.

Reviews

A way to leave a word of thanks and honest feedback after a borrow, visible inside your Fold. It's being built now.

05 · Plans

Lending is always free between members.

fold in never takes a cut and there's nothing to settle up. Paid plans raise the limits: how many Folds you can run, how big they get, and how many auto-fills you get each month.
